Engineering Capabilities

We use the very best machining tools available to produce components exactly to specification and in virtually any quantity.  Our wide array of CNC equipment allows us to handle aluminium, stainless steel, brass, copper, phosphorus bronze, titanium, mild steel and various non-metal materials. From these we can produce all manner of bespoke small-batch-size components, and can even machine castings.

To save you time in organising subcontractors, we can now provide a range of ancillary services to complement our precision machining facility. This includes design advice prior to manufacture, materials supply, CNC turning & milling, metalwork finishing (anodising, plating, painting, heat treatment), component assembly, and packaging and labelling.

Our Parts-Finishing Treatments

F.C. Newell & Son Ltd can manage virtually any engineering or machining treatment (or parts finishing work) you require. The cost of this is included in the quotation we provide. Typical treatments/finishes include:

• Alocrom 1000 and 1200

• Anodising (sulphuric and chromic, including colour and dichromate)

• Hard anodising

• Various plating (tin, zinc nickel etc.)

• Passivation

• Painting

• Engraving

• Heat treatment

• Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

F.C Newell & Son Ltd uses various machining methods to produce components of the very highest quality. Our continual investment into the latest CNC technologies keeps us at the very forefront of a highly competitive industry. Machines we currently use include;

• 1 Mazak Nexus II CNC 4-axis lathe with 65mm chuck
• 2 Hardinge CHNC 2-axis lathes
• 3 Hardinge Conquest GT CNC lathes, 2 of which have live tooling
• 1 Hardinge Conquest T42 CNC lathes with live tooling and programmable tailstock
• 1 Hardinge Conquest T42 CNC 3-axis lathe with subspindle
• 1 Citizen C16 sliding head CNC 7-axis lathe
• 1 Haas MM2 CNC 4-axis mill
• 1 Sunnen honing machine
• 5 drilling spindles
• 1 Harrison Universal milling machine
• 1 Condor turret milling machine
• 2 Colchester manual centre lathes
• 3 Hardinge manual turret lathes

Before leaving our production facility, all of the components we produce must pass a quality inspection procedure which is run according to ISO 9001:2008 standards.

Engineering Quality

We use the latest inspection equipment and engineering methods available to ensure that all engineered parts are delivered to the standard and quality you would expect from a leading UK subcontractor. We’re able to cater for whatever inspection criteria you require:

• First Article Inspection Reports
• Initial Sample Inspection Reports
• Statistical Process Control

Work completed in our facilities is only ever despatched after it has successfully passed through inspection and has been given a Certificate of Conformity (unless otherwise authorised).
